NHS Mid and South Essex and Care Partnership
On Tuesday 1st February 2022 I delivered a workshop concerning LGBTQ people living with Dementia. We used MS Teams as the technology platform which provided an alternative, efficient means of delivery. It involved over 100 health care professionals from Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership. It was part of their “Time to Learn” initiative. As it was Pride Month it seemed fitting that it focused on the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community.
“Well done Gina. You were great. So thought provoking”.
“Was great to attend your session yesterday, so pleased to see your great work and proud of your efforts”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your presentation at the Time To Learn session yesterday, it was extraordinary. You gave the attendees a unique opportunity to test and challenge their thought process, bias and practice which I am sure will stay with them, a lot of learning took place!”
SAVS
LGBT dementia awareness workshop delivered to Staff from Southend Association of Voluntary Services 23rd November 2021
There are few studies on LGBT aging, and dementia care. Despite the lack of awareness, there is no excuse for not providing inclusive care. It is absolutely crucial that organisations consider older LGBT people when providing care in order to avoid health inequity and potential breaches of law.
My workshops consider the topics of:
· “We Treat everyone the same”
· LGBT community, and its aging population.
· Trans Persons Living with Dementia (TPLWD)
· Two Case studies
· Health issues and hidden risks
· Legal issues and obligations
· Health and Gender Passports
· Checklist for change including personal assessment
This is just some of the feedback received.
“I’ve had training on LGBT (issues) before, but this has been more informative and eye-opening.”
“Would recommend this training to other service providers.”
“Clear, concise, mixed with humour.”
“Great training & content – will be thinking more about these issues.”
“Opened up my eyes and thinking how I behave, and have been closed to the whole topic.”
“Loved it! Gina made it fun and made me 100% comfortable and I learned so much.”
“Do as many training sessions as you can – so many people need this knowledge.”
